Along with the announcements of the new Apple TV and iPad Pro, Apple also officially announced the iPhone 6s and 6S Plus. While they still feature the same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays found on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, they do have updated components and an improved build.
We saw Lewis from Unbox Therapy give an early prototype casing some scientific testing, and he concluded it was made with 7000 series aluminum. Today Apple confirmed the new phones will, in fact, be 7000 series, and will come in four colors: space gray, silver, gold and rose gold. The new stronger Aluminum will make the phone quite a bit stronger and prevent another "bendgate" situation for Apple. There is also a new glass that is made with a dual ion exchange process and allows for the new 3D touch that can sense the amount of pressure you touch with to determine its assignment.
The new iPhone will also feature the new A9 64-bit chip that is said to be 70% faster in CPU processing, and 90% faster in GPU performance over the A8. The new chip will also to be more battery efficient than its predecessor. In connectivity, the LTE Advanced is up to 2X faster, Wi-Fi has been improved and tops out at 866Mbps, and support has been added for 23 LTE bands
But maybe most importantly is a new upgrade to the camera. The new S series features a 12-megapixel iSight camera capable of capturing 4K video. The new camera is also capable of taking 63-megapixel panoramic photos and can take Live Photos that capture the scene right before and after your actual picture and sets it all in motion for you.
The new iPhone 6s and 6S Plus will be available for pre-order on September 12th, and sales begin on September 25th. The iPhone 6s will be available for $199 on a two-year contract for the 16GB storage version. The 64GB will be $299 while the 128GB will be $399. The S6 Plus will start at $299 for the 16GB, $399 for the 64 and $499 for the 128GB version. Apple also announced its new payment plan, where for $32-44 per month you get to lease the phone and receive a new model every single year. The plan will also include AppleCare+.
