Bushnell Outdoor Products, more commonly known simply as ‘Bushnell’, is an American company that specializes in outdoor and optic products. They build optics primarily for hunting, tactical, and sporting purposes. Their wide array of products includes everything from binoculars, to scopes, to night vision equipment and GPS devices.
Interestingly, the company also sells Bollé ski goggles and sunglasses, and Serengeti eyewear. These products are well known and often referred to as the standard when it comes to quality ski goggles and eyewear.
As you might expect, Bushnell gets its name from its founder, David Bushnell. The company was founded way back in 1948, and since then has steadily grown to become one of the most prolific and trusted manufacturers of optical products.
In 1999 Bushnell was acquired by private equity firm Wind Point Partners. And then again in 2007 the company was acquired, this time by MidOcean Partners. In recent years (2013), Alliant Techsystems entered into an agreement to acquire Bushnell. Details of the deal had Alliant paying somewhere in the neighborhood of $985 million in cash for the company. Who would have thought the company would be worth nearly a billion dollars when it was formed in 1948!?
Besides the Bushnell, Bollé, and Serengeti brands, Bushnell also manufactures outdoor products under Primos, Uncle Mike’s, Tasco, Stoney Point, Simmons Outdoor, Hoppe’s, Butler Creek, Bushnell Golf, Browning, Blackwater, and Millett.
The outlook for Bushnell and its brands is bright. They’re making tremendous strides, especially in the golf industry, with their GPS watches, rangefinders, and more. Their products are gaining acceptance not only among average golfers, but among the professional ranks as well. This speaks to the quality and accuracy of Bushnell products, because everyone from golfers, to hunters, to outdoorsman need their scopes, rangefinders and sights to be pinpoint accurate. Something Bushnell delivers time and time again.
