Withings Scale

MobileFitThe next scale you buy needs to do a few things or you shouldn't buy it. It should measure your weight (duh). It should be able to estimate your body fat percentage and body mass index (BMI). It should talk to your Wi-Fi network to automatically store and track your measurements. The next bathroom scale you buy needs to be a Smart Scale. This is where we come in and gather some of the best. That way you can quickly browse and purchase the one that's perfect for you.

Fitbit Aria

Fitbit Aria

Fitbit has been at the intersection of health, fitness and technology for a long time. They're most famous for their wearable activity trackers, like the Fitbit Flex and Fitbit One, but they do make a kickass wireless Smart Scale for your bathroom. It's called the Aria and is a no-brainer purchase for anyone already using a Fitbit to track their activity.

The Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale tracks your weight, body fat percentage and BMI. A single Aria is also capable of tracking the data for 8 different people. All data is transferred over Wi-Fi to sync with your Fitbit account to be tracked and analyzed. To match your bathroom, you can get the Aria in either black or white. Official companion apps on iOS, Android and Windows allow you to track your progress.

Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyzer

Withings is another company all-in on technology and fitness. They produce a variety of products to help improve your life. Activity trackers, baby monitors, wireless blood pressure monitors and Smart Scales are just some of the products you'll find from Withings. Today we're interested in the Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyzer.

Like the Aria, the Smart Body Analyzer will track your weight, body fat percentage and BMI. But it has a few extra tracking tricks up its sleeves. This scale is also capable of measure the air quality around you at time of measurement. It'll also take your heart rate and track up to 8 users. It also comes in white or black. Don't forget to grab the official Android or iOS app to sync and track your progress.

Blip Wi-Fi Weight Scale

Blip Wi-Fi Weight Scale

Smart Scales can be pricey, which is why we're highlighting the Blip Wi-Fi Weight Scale from Blipcare. It's not as expensive as the options above (especially if you're an Amazon Prime member) and might appeal to those not needing a ton of bells and whistles. That said, it fairs favorable in terms of specs with the Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyzer and the Fitbit Aria.

Like you'd expect in a Smart Scale, this model from Blipcare is capable of tracking your weight, BMI, reminders to take readings and support for up to 10 different users. Mobile apps exist on Android and iOS, plus you can view your data on the Blipcare website or sync it with Microsoft HealthVault.

Do you own a Smart Scale? Which one and why?

Buyers Guide: The best wireless bathroom scales

Still leaning toward the Withings. Not interested in a Fitbit band so I only want the scale to do what i really need and that is to keep tabs on my (and my wife's) progress. The Android app, which I've already downloaded, seems to be working on BB10.

I don't own any bathroom scales, but aren't they almost all wireless?

Just a little pedantry lol.

I have the Aria and I really like it. I got mine at a discount, but even at full price I still think it's a solid purchase.

I do have a Fitbit flex also.

Glad to read mention that the Blip syncs with Microsoft HealthVault. The Withings WS-50 does also, and I believe the Aria does too. HealthVault is a pretty extensive cloud app that is a lot more useful for tracking overall health rather than most "fitness" apps. Quite a few apps and devices link with it.

Yes they do, I bought a set, very happy. Its kick started (the self reflection kind not the ripping you off via a website kind) a bit of a quantified self quest

For the last year I've been using a Fitbit Aria, but I've had a chance to play around with a friends WS-50 Withings scale on a few occasions. Another person I know provided me great feedback on their WS-30 ... and when you compare the prices right now, it seems that is the way to go. My mini comparison & review is here:

TL;DR - Best bang for the buck is the Withings WS-30 right now... IMO!

Both Withings and Fitbit scales figure out the user based on their weight. If some one within say 10 lbs steps on the scale, it does not know what to do with it. I do like the GUEST button on Blipcare.

Also I don't care for the Body fat measurement on Withings/Aria. It is not accurate and they have too many disclaimers- Don't use it when you wake up or after you work out !! I almost have to "take an appointment with the scale" to measure body fat - which may not be accurate still.
