Celebrating 15 Years of Mobile Nations!

15 Years!
By Marcus Adolfsson on 9 Sep 2014 11:30 am

On September 9th, 1999, the origin story for Mobile Nations began when VisorCentral launched from my student apartment at University of Florida. Immediately the website became a fixture of the Handspring Visor online community by delivering high quality and reliable news, articles, reviews, and an active forum.

While today the Visor is a relic — I'm sure many of our younger readers have never even heard of it before — 15 years later we are stronger than ever delivering the same experience that made VisorCentral a success. Over the years we have navigated the many shifts in mobile platforms, and today Mobile Nations reaches over 32 million readers every month through Android Central, iMore, WPCentral, CrackBerry and our newest site, Connectedly.

From the early days of the revolutionary VisorPhone and Treo 600, the popular the Bold 9000, the T-Mobile G1, the AT&T Tilt, the Palm Pre, Windows Phone 7, the iPhone 4, the Galaxy S3, iPhone 5, BlackBerry Z10, Galaxy S5, it has been an amazing journey!

To achieve the kind of outstanding success Mobile Nations has enjoyed over the years has taken the efforts of many talented and passionate individuals. I've been blessed to be able to work among so many writers, editors, designers and coders who have all contributed to building Mobile Nations into what it is today. Our store teams have shipped over three million orders out the door and our volunteer forums teams have moderated over 15 million posts to date. Together, we have accomplished a lot, and I thank everybody who has played their part.

Our guiding principle throughout our history has been to focus on the needs of mobile users and build the kind of sites and communities that we want to visit and participate in daily. Priority number one for us has always been and always will be our readers. It's been an exciting 15 years and I'm confident the next 15 will be equally exciting. In all honesty, it feels like we're just getting started and there's still so much we want to do.

A Special Thank You to Our Members Who Have Been Here the Longest!

For a little fun on our 15th anniversary, I dove into our database of over 6.5 million registered members, and pulled out usernames of the first ten members that joined way back in 1999 that are still active today (they've all logged in within the last month to one of our sites). As a special THANK YOU, each of the following members will receive a $150 gift card which they can use anywhere and put towards the purchase of their next phone:

Dstrauss, monsieurms, jaytee, Trinition, Joe, Paladin, Mcevoys, kgilbertsen, jwbekens, Kris Gent, Xeron

Congrats and thanks for your patronage!

Leave a Comment For Your Chance to Win a $150 Gift Card!

In addition to recognizing our ten longest participating readers, we're giving away another ten $150 gift cards to our members. For your chance to win, simply login and leave a comment on this post. We'll be picking two winners at random from each of our sites, so feel free to leave a comment on this post on each of our sites to maximize your chance at winning. Open worldwide. You have until this Sunday, Midnight PST to enter and we'll announce the winners next week.

Good luck, and here's to the next 15 years! I hope continue to join us for the ride. It's going to be wild!

That's so awesome to have members that have been active for that long. It's a testament to the quality of content that goes into each of these sites.

Thank-you Mobile Nations!

Congratulations to those who've been here from the start, and all the contest winners since then!

Happy 15th birthday to Mobile Nations and wish you all the best on the many years to come!

I can't believe how long you've been around... then again, I do remember searching my way "here" while trying to figure out how to sync things to my Palm (and later HTC Mogul). I miss those days & devices. Wait, no I do not.

What an exciting time in history when the path from the imagination to reality is becoming exceedingly close. Happy Birthday!

15 great years from a truly great site. Here's hoping for many many more great years. Mobile Nations FTW!

It's been fun watching the changes in tech for the last 30 years - still waiting for the Dick Tracy wrist comp - but shouldn't be much longer. now!

Congrats on the 15 years!!! I've been a member since I got my Treo 600 back in 2003 and was blessed to spend almost 3 years as a writer on Precentral/webOS Nation! Here's to the next 15 years!

I wish I was older so I could ha E participated back in the glory days! I started my smartphone journey with the Nokia 3620, a Symbol S60 phone and was always on Howard forums back in the day.

I haven't visited this part of the Mobile Nations before, so I'm just dropping by to check out the local scenery and say "hi". Also, keep up the great work, guys!

Congratulations on the Milestone to the Mobile Nations.Because of Mobile Nations,I am today aware of a lot of things in the world of smartphones and Wearables.Connectedly is a great little site.Thank You And cheers to Marcus.

Happy Anniversary! or is it Happy Birthday? Whatever the sentiment is the same. What a cool way to surprise & honor your longest members.

Visor was my very first PDA, Treo 650 was my very first smartphone, TreoCentral was the first online community I joined.

And since this is Connectedly, my first smartwatch is the Gear 2 Neo. Will be interesting to see where tech is in another 15 years

Thanks for covering our connected world. It makes me just a bit old to know I've been using these devices for such a long time.

I just started coming to this section of the mobile nations family of websites, but I am very excited to see what comes next! Keep up the great work!

Congrats to the winners!
15 years in tech is quite the accomplishment. I've only been here 10 years, so I guess I'm still a noob. :)

Happy birthday mobile nations. Started as a crackberry member, now I'm all over the place. Heres to another 15 more years...

I heard of the visor, my best man had one. I had palm pilots then joined a little later with Treocentral. Happy b-day!

I remember the days of Treocentral! It was fun to see the article on the old PalmOS bug that exploited the find feature on a locked device, and then within two hours have coded a small fix and posted it to Treocentral's forums! :)

Thanks for all your help - still using palm after all these years and this place has been essential.
To the next 15 years....

First off happy birthday mobile nations, congratulations on making it to 15 years, that's on hell of an achievement, and secondly congratulations to those 10 who have been here from day one... I have been a member coming on 2 years now and visit most sites multiple times a day to get an update on current/ future news... Absolutely love it so thanks to all those who put in the hard work to keep us informed (including some hilarious banter from other users)... Heres to the next 15 years :)

Happy Anniversary! I started with PreCentral and have followed all the sites since. Thanks for your continued work, and your dedication to all things tech!

Its a great day for mobile nation.. I don't know weather I'll win 150$ gift card or not but still I hope I win. When you'll declare the result ? Please please I win win win...

Congratulations.... Happy Birthday and here is wishing many many more years of us together.... I love you guys...

Congratulations. I was thinking that back then I had a Palm but since it was a IIIxe, Wikipedia says that it must have been later (after Feb 2000). Wow, pre-mobile devices for me!

Well done, you've made it this far. Keep the good work up! Congratulations to the members who were rewarded.

Mobile Nation is really a great place to come to to stay on the newest events, information and news for every Mobile OS ! It's really great ! I love Crackberry since my first BlackBerry back in 2009 and I follow iMore and Android Central in a regular basis ! I'm a big fan ! Great work keep up I'll follow you for years and years to come !!!

I have been with technology since the beginning, but this is a truly exciting time to be alive. Only thing better would be to be born into it all and be able to advance from this point on.

I remember reading Crackberry and hacking my device over and over again, each time hoping to overcome the deficiencies that were common at the time. Now I rock on iMore. NO more hacking, but a great device and great information from Mobile Nations. Congrats!

I am pretty new on CrackBerry (since being in love with my Z10). But I hope that I will stay here for a long time.

Therefore, Happy Birthday for my new old friend Mobile Nations and it's CrackBerry!

Only been reading Mobile Nations for a couple of years, but your sites are still the ones I return to day in day out for all the latest and greatest tech news. :)
