Known for their early-stage development of audio products and tech, Denon is a well-respected Japanese electronics company. In their early days, Denon focused on the development of digital audio, and manufactured many high-fidelity audio products.
For many years ‘Denon’ was actually a brand name of Nippon-Columbia, but in 2001, Denon was spun off as its own company. Shortly thereafter in 2002, Denon merged with Marantz to form D&M Holdings.
Looking back through the history of the company is an interesting ride to take. Way back in 1910 the company was established as part of the Japanese Recorders Corporation (Nippon Chikuonki Shokai). They produced single-sided disc records and gramophones primarily. Since 1910 all the way through today, there have been a number of mergers and changes, but the company is still producing new products to consumers.
In 2007 Denon released the AVP-A1HDCI Pre-Amp and POA-A1HDCI power amplifier set. In 2008 they announced the world’s first universal Blu-ray player. Most recently in 2012, Denon announced a new headphone line along with a line of iOS apps. The headphone line is divided into different lifestyle categories. The company has a headphone for almost every need (sports, travel, enhanced bass).
