We've heard rumors that LG is hard at work on a Google smartwatch, and it appears that it may be revealed in just a few weeks. Google today announced Android Wear — a platform to bring Android to wearable devices & namely smartwatches. Android Wear will offer up notifications for shopping apps, social networks, chats and more. The familiar "OK Google" phrase will fire up the voice input as well.
Google hasn't yet announced a hero device to go along with Android Wear, but they will be working with Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung down the road. Rumors are already flying too about a new watch from LG. The G Watch will be sporting Google's new wearables platform and may be available as soon as next quarter. LG and Google have worked together previously on the Nexus series of phones which have proven to be some awesome devices. Specs and pricing are still unknown at this point, but LG says they the G Watch will offer a Google experience and serve as a "low barrier for entry" to developers.
Some good things to come now from Google, and hopefully plenty of awesome smartwatches as well. With the Tizen-powered Samsung devices on the way, new Android Wear devices will surely make for some good competition.
