Interview with Pebble CTO, Andrew Witte

In pursuit of all the goods for our Pebble feature (if you haven't read it yet, do that now), our pal Phil talked it up with Pebble CTO, Andrew Witte. Andrew talks about the beginnings of Pebble, being born from the original inPulse smartwatch. The team knew they needed to shift gears and support the iPhone and they ultimately started on a new device based on ideas for a better screen.

They wanted a display for not only better for indoor viewing, but outdoor as well. Going with black & white and giving up colors gave them the ability to have the display on all the time, made it readable in direct sunlight and makes for awesome battery life. Andrew also dove into a bit of the technical details of what's inside the Pebble watch and how they got where they are with the current incarnation of the device. Moving forward he feels that there is plenty more that can still be done with the current software, but noting that the ability to customize a watch to make it your own is one of the greatest features.
