Founded by Saul B. Marantz in Kew Gardens, New York, Marantz designs and sells high-end audio products. The company is headquartered in Kanagawa, Japan.
To start off the 1980’s, they were owned by Philips and produced some stunning, and great sounding CD players. In fact, their CD players are probably what they were best known for. Since their success in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s Marantz has shifted their focus to high-end audio products.
The company has had a colorful history. After Philips purchased the company from Superscope in 1980, Philips acquired the US and Canadian trademarks in 1992, along with the existing dealer network. In 2001, Marantz Japan acquired the brand, and in 2002, Marantz Japan and Denon agreed to merge, forming what is now known as D&M Holdings.
Sadly, founder Saul Marantz passed away in 1997, but D&M Holdings continues to make quality high-end audio products to this day. In fact, in 2014 Marantz was acquired by inMusicBrands, opening up a new and exciting direction for the company.
