Pebble and Misfit have teamed up to bring a new option for activity tracking to the Pebble smartwatch. The addition of a Misfit app for Pebble now enables Pebble owners to get their fitness tracking on with just their Pebble — no additional Misfit Shine wearable necessary.

The Misfit watchapp is available today in the Pebble appstore, and lets users count steps and track their activity right from their wrists—no smartphone or Shine required. In addition, Misfit's latest iOS app will be available from Apple's App Store soon. It includes support for Pebble watches and tracks additional metrics such as calories burned and distance traveled.

Pebble says that this is just the first step "in an ongoing partnership and collaboration between Pebble and Misfit", with the goal of bringing better health and fitness tracking to a wider audience.

Those interested can grab the Misfit watchapp from the Pebble appstore today.

So does it have to remain as the watchface app like the other trackers? Or will you be allowed to use other apps and still have it track steps?
