A firmware update has made its way this evening from Palo Alto, Calif., to a Pebble smartwatch near you, and version 2.2 brings a couple of welcome improvements.

First up is that you can now rearrange apps in the launcher. Just highlight it, then hold down the select button (that's the one in the middle on the right), then move the item up or down. It's especially useful because now apps that you use frequently aren't buried at the bottom.

And almost as important is that you can now adjust the volume in the music app. Just hold down the select button, then choose either up or down to raise or lower the volume. It's quick, it's easy, and it's a nice addition. Also, the music app has gained a track progress bar and has some layout improvements.

The alarm has been tweaked as well, vibrating for up to 10 minutes, instead of just 60 seconds.

To get the firmware update, first be sure to update your iOS Pebble app. Then visit the support section of your Pebble smartphone app and choose Check for Update.

Also worth a mention is that the iOS Pebble app has added support for iBeacon, so your phone and Pebble will know when they're close to each other. Pebble says the GPS location isn't recorded, and it has a negligible impact on battery life.

It surprised me that it took this long for them to add volume controls, but it is a welcome addition. I'll probably still stick with Music Boss, but for those who don't want to pay for another app it's a nice step forward.

I love the fact I can rearrange the menu though - already customized mine.

Is this available for Android yet? No mention of it in the article, surprising considering Phil is Mr. Android lol

Also, anyone know how this update plays with T2W and BB10?

Yes, it's available for Android. I just randomly checked for an update on my pebble app last night and got the 2.2 update to my watch.
