Oculus has announced that it would begin shipping the latest Rift virtual reality headset, which is dubbed the DK2 (Developer Kit #2), later this month. The DK2 went on pre-order this March for $350, eventually crossing over 45,000 sales, of which 12,000 pre-orders came in the first 36 hours.

The first 10,000 pre-orders are being fulfilled this month, with customers set to receive their headsets from the second week of July. The remaining 35000 units, however, have been delayed, with Oculus stating that there is a "high chance" they won't be shipping until the month of August.

Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey has said that plans were underway to ramp up production for the outstanding orders, which will no doubt be aided by the influx of cash from Facebook.

Did you pre-order the Oculus Rift? If not, are eagerly awaiting the commercial launch of the virtual reality headset?
