Headquartered in Dongguan, Guangdong, China, OPPO Electronics is a producer of Hi-Fi, home theater, audio visual, and mobile technology products. Their major lines include portable media players, MP3 players, DVD and Blu-ray disc players, and mobile phones.
The company was founded in 2004 by Tony Chen, and has grown leaps and bounds since its humble beginnings. Regional divisions are now found in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and China. Each of these divisions design their own unique products to market to their specific region of the world.
In the U.S. Oppo Digital operates as an independent operation. The company has licensed the Oppo brand, and are based in Mountain View, California, the heart of silicon valley. Oppo Digital designs, builds, and markets their own products to the U.S. market. These products deliver a unique blend of style, performance and value to the American consumer.
Oppo’s first universal Blu-ray player was the BDP-83. Released in 2010, it featured 3D compatibility and a dual HDMI signal output. The BDP-83 was followed by four more Blu-ray players through 2013, and they continue to design and manufacture these players today.
Oppo is also active in the mobile phone market. Their current flagship is the Oppo Find 5. In September of 2013 they announced the N1, which was released in December of that year. Interestingly enough, Oppo once held the distinction of being the manufacturer with the thinnest smartphone to their credit. The ‘Finder’ (one of their original offerings) was only 6.65 mm thick.
