Panasonic is a Japanese multinational electronics corporation with headquarters in Kadoma, Osaka, Japan. While the company focuses on electronics (Panasonic is one of the world's top TV manufacturers), the company also offers non-electronic products and services. Panasonic is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and can be found on the Nikkei 225 and TOPIX indices.
Panasonic was founded in 1918, and has grown to become one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers. Not many know that the company was actually known as ‘Matsushita Electric Industrial Company’ from 1935 through October 2008. On January 10th of 2008, the company announced they were changing their name to ‘Panasonic Corporation’, or as we commonly know them by, Panasonic.
Currently Panasonic employs more than 300,000 staff. They have over 550 subsidiary companies as well. When it comes to patents, Panasonic is no slouch either. To date, they hold a total of over 140,000 patents. An impressive number for sure.
An interesting little tidbit about Panasonic is the fact that they used to own Universal Studios. Panasonic sold Universal Studios to Seagram in 1995, and the studios are now a unit of NBCUniversal, which is owned by Comcast.
