Parrot has announced that its two new "MiniDrones", the Jumping Sumo and the Rolling Spider, will be available in August, along with announcing the prices for both. First announced at CES, both drones are smaller than Parrot's AR.Drone quad-copter.
The Jumping Sumo, a two-wheeled little drone that can move quickly on the ground and jump 80 cm in the air, will be available for $159.99. The bouncing bot has a battery life of twenty minutes. Meanwhile, the Rolling Spider, a mini-quadcopter about the size of a hand, will be available for $99.99. The Rolling Spider can be equipped with two optional wheel attachments for ground traversal, and has a battery life of eight minutes. Both drones will be available from Apple, Best Buy, Sprint, and Verizon at launch in August.
Both the Jumping Sumo and the Rolling Spider are controlled by a smartphone app, which also receives camera feeds from the devices. While Parrot currently makes control apps for iOS, Android, and Windows 8.1, they promise that an app will come to Windows Phone 8.1.
