Pebble Android 2.0 Beta 10 now available for developers

If you're anxiously awaiting the official release of the Pebble 2.0 app for Android, you'll have to hang in there a bit longer. If you're the adventurous type however, you can now download Beta 10 of the app and give it the ol' run around in the meantime. All you need to do is make sure you're registered in the Pebble Developer Portal and you're good to go.

This is what changed in this version:

  • Improvements to speed in MyPebble
  • Improvements to connection stability (this fixes the appmessage getting stuck bug)
  • Improvements to power use
  • Installing apps via websockets will now auto launch them
  • Improvements to JavaScript launch in many conditions, such as when the watch just lost connection to the phone
  • Improvements to pairing during onboarding

Known problems:

  • Still some issues in onboarding
  • HTML5 localStorage gets shared between apps.
  • The onboarding process will restart if you enable Accessibility. Workaround: Do not enable accessibility in the onboarding process.
  • If you are upgrading from a pre-2.0 firmware, you will need to first upgrade your watch to 1.14. Upgrading from earlier version is not fully supported at the moment. (To upgrade your Pebble firmware, please use the Pebble 1.9.6 app available in Google Play).

If you do fire it up be sure to swing by the comments and let us know how it's working for you. Fingers crossed that we'll see an official release before too long.

Yeah, the notifications don't show up on the watch screen, but the watch does vibrate. Immediately downgrading.

Yikes, I'm finding that the update nukes all of the pebble apps installed and that Notification Center, Pebble Dialer, WatchNote, and Phone Ringer Switcher all won't reinstall. All were previously working with Beta 8. Time for a downgrade ;)

I don't know about the rest of your post, but my pebble kept it's apps after the upgrade. I did, though, have that above posted problem

Posted from my M7

I don't see people explicitly calling out that installed apps are being deleted, but there are tons of complaints on the beta 10 release blog post citing that third party/sideloaded watch faces and apps no longer work. 1 person found relief by downgrading to release 8 and then upgrading to release 10 again. I'll probably try that tonight to see if it helps me.

I also found that it won't let you load any other FW files, i tried the FW after i loaded the Beta 10 app and let it update my Pebble's FW. Instead of installing the FW to the watch it just opens up the Pebble app on the phone, but doesn't do anything. Had to downgrade load the FW then upgrade again and not let it update my FW.

Did not have the issue like everyone else was stating where watchapps/watchfaces got uninstalled.
