- Is the PSP the Greatest Handheld Ever? 8 replies | Last reply 2 years ago
The Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) is Sony’s handheld gaming console. Announced in 2003, the small gaming device was made available first in Japan in December of 2004. North America, Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceana received the device in March of 2005.
To date Sony has sold more than 80 million PSP devices. Specs on the PSP include a 480x272 display with over 16 million colors, 333 MHz MIPS R4000 CPU, 32 MB or 64 MB of memory (depending on the model), memory stick capability, stereo speakers, WiFi, IrDA, USB, Bluetooth, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The Playstation Portable uses an optical disc format or all of its games. To this date, it remains the only handheld gaming device to use this format for storage.
Preceded by Sony’s Pocketstation, and succeeded by Sony’s newer Playstation Vita, the PSP remains one of a favorite for many gamers around the world today.
