Samsung Gear S launching in the US on November 7, pricing and availability detailed

Samsung's SIM-enabled Gear S will be launching in the US on November 7, with the smartwatch going on sale at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. The device will also be available at at Samsung Experience stores located within Best Buy.

Pricing and availability:

  • Sprint - $384 outright, or $16 spread over 24 months. Launching on November 7.
  • T-Mobile - $349 outright, or $14.58 for 24 months. Launching on November 9.
  • AT&T - $199 with two-year contract. Launching on November 7.
  • Verizon - TBA.

The Gear S features a 2-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 360 and is powered by a 1.0 GHz dual-core CPU. The Tizen-based smartwatch offers standalone 2G and 3G connectivity — which allows you to call and send texts without having to connect to a smartphone — along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 LE and A-GPS/Glonass. Navigation is provided through Nokia's HERE services.

Also included are a gyro, accelerometer, heart rate sensor, UV sensor and a barometer, as well as IP67 certification, which makes the device resistant to dust and water. Samsung states that the 300 mAh battery provides enough juice to last the device for up to two days.

Not a fan of the design language, particularly the glossy materials and watch theme. Looks too feminine haha.

Though the concept is not exactly new, would prefer to have the Gear S + bone conduction headset.

I kinda want one but I also wonder if they're going to release one with NFC to compete with the Apple Watch.
