Samsung launches Gear S smartwatch in South Korea

After announcing availability of the SIM-enabled Gear S in the US last week, Samsung is now launching of the device in its home market. The Gear S is now available in South Korea for 297,000 Won ($277) on KT and SK Telecom.

Available in black and white color variants, the Gear S allows you to surf the web via the bundled Opera Mini browser, make and receive calls and texts without the need to connect to a smartphone. The device also features navigation from HERE Maps, and fitness tracking through S Health. The device is certified IP67, making it resistant to water and dust.

In terms of hardware, you're looking at a 2-inch curved AMOLED display, 1 GHz dual-core CPU, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB internal memory, Bluetooth and GPS, along with a heart rate sensor, UV sensor and a barometer. The 300 mAh battery delivers enough juice to last the device for two days on a single charge.
