At a media event in New Delhi, Samsung launched the SIM-enabled Gear S smartwatch in the country for Rs. 28900 ($480). The Tizen-based wearable device is set to go on sale starting October 17, and will be available from brick and mortar stores as well as e-commerce sites in the country.
The Gear S features a 1 GHZ dual-core CPU, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB internal storage, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and a 300 mAh battery as well as a heart rate sensor. The smartwatch is also certified IP67, which offers dust and water resistance. As the watch features a SIM card slot, users will be able to make calls, check notifications and emails without having to pair with a smartphone.
