Smart Watch Companion update brings bug fixes, camera trigger and customizable RSS feeds to your Pebble

The developer behind what I have dubbed the Swiss army knife of Pebble Apps, aptly titled Smart Watch Companion, is at it again bringing even more delightful features to this rich application. As a proud owner of a BlackBerry Z30, compatible native applications are rather scarce and ones such as this certainly do make up for the slack in terms of functionality.

If you are not familiar already with Smart Watch Companion, it is a jack of all trades Pebble application that makes use of the existing BlackBerry pebble application Talk2Watch. In order for all features to be accessible, the installation of this application is required, preferable Talk2Watch Pro, as well as the latest version of the Pebble software. It provides detailed weather forecasts, London Underground Tube alerts, Google and LastPass Authenticator Codes (as well as other sites), RSS News information for predefined sites, Bitcoin/Litecoin/Stock quotes, Alarms, and other BlackBerry social features to make sure you get the most out of your Pebble.

The full change log is listed below for your convenience.

Smart Watch Companion v1.1 Change Log

  • UI Tweaks
  • Bug fixes
  • Script mode remote camera trigger
  • Create recharge watch calendar event
  • 3 new user customizable RSS feeds
  • More Authenticator options
  • Authenticator secret keys now scannable via provider issued qr barcodes
  • Cricket Scores
  • Plex Media Center Controller

Our recent walk-through took a closer look at all of these features and how easy they are to use or trigger directly from your Pebble smartwatch. Two of the more interesting features to take note of in this release is the ability to control your Plex media center remotely and the camera shutter. Being able to snap photos from your wrist is certainly a nice capability to access and is very easy to use.

SWC is for OS 10.2.1 and supports all BlackBerry 10 devices. Please note that in order push notifications to your Pebble, the BlackBerry application Talk2Watch or Talk2Watch Pro is required. In addition, for those wishing to use Script Mode, you will need at least Pebble 2.0 beta 4 firmware installed.

If you are looking to leverage the capabilities of BlackBerry 10 on your Pebble, this is great application to own. It packs quite a few features into one conveniently accessible application for only $2.99.
