Sony has confirmed to Wired that the PlayStation 4 will support PlayStation 2 emulation, which will enable owners to enjoy classic titles on the next-gen console. It has also been reported that Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, all bundled with Star Wars Battlefront, are running on this propriety software package.
Being one of Sony's most popular consoles, it would make sense for the company to work hard at introducing some degree of support for older titles, opening the gates to hours of nostalgic gameplay. Should the aforementioned Star Wars titles be running on said emulation software, it would be an interesting launch for PS2 support, under the radar and with no formal announcement.
There's no word on when we can look to expect backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 4, but we'll be sure to keep you all informed should we learn more.
