Sony has sold a ton of its PlayStation 4 consoles since it was first launched in mid-November 2013. How many, you may ask? During the company's Gamescom press event in Germany today, Sony officially announced it has sold over 10 million units of its latest home game console worldwide.
By the way, that 10 million unit level represents PS4 consoles that have been sold to consumers, not just units that have shipped to stores. Microsoft has not offered any recent updates on how many of its Xbox One consoles it has sold through since it also launched in November 2014.
Sony also announced plans for a big 2.0 software update for the PS4 today, which will add support for uploading video game footage recorded on the console directly to YouTube. Sony also says it will add a feature called Share Play, which will let players invite a friend to play a game even if that friend doesn't own the game.
Sony plans to release a white version of the PS4 in a bundle with the upcoming sci-fi shooter Destiny in the US, and also on its own in Europe. What do you think of the PS4 selling so many units in just nine months after its launch?
