At I/O, Google showcased three Android Wear smartwatch models from LG, Samsung, and Motorola, with the former two costing at least $199 and the latter's price is yet to be revealed until later this summer. Now, it looks like Asus is rumored to be entering the wrist race with an Android Wear watch of its own, but this time at a much more affordable price.
According to an undisclosed source to TechCrunch, it looks like Asus' entry into the category could cost as little as $99 or as much as $149. At the low end of the spectrum, the Asus watch would be priced at half of the $199 Samsung Gear Live and over fifty percent less than the $229 LG G Watch. Motorola's Moto 360 has not received any pricing information yet.
If the source is accurate, the Asus-made watch is expected to launch with an AMOLED screen in September.
Android Wear is Google's attempt to bring another screen into your life where your smartphone or tablet would serve as the hub of your mobile world. With Android Wear, you'll get notifications pushed to your wrist and you can perform quick tasks on the go with your voice, including Google search, so you don't need to pull out your phone.
Details are still scarce about the rumored Asus Android Wear attempt, but be sure to stay on top of Android Central's Android Wear coverage for more details as we learn about them.
