As BlackBerry 10 users will know, Talk2Watch is the best option we have right now to experience the Pebble smartwatch. It does a great job of it, even with some limitations. The developer has been working hard to bring a Pro version to the table in order to bring more features.
The developer has also created an API reference app for any developers to use to connect their apps with Talk2Watch (both versions). We already saw Watch2Watch connect with Talk2Watch. Slowly other developers are making apps to connect with Talk2Watch.
With Talk2Watch Pro we see the addition of BBM alerts. This is really one of the biggest things the developer has been working on. At the moment it is bare bones. All you’ll get is a notification to say that your have a BBM message. There currently isn’t a way to read into the message — yet. There is also no indication of who sent it but it is a step forward in bringing BBM notifications to BlackBerry 10 users.
Another feature that the Pro version brings in Scriptmode. This feature eliminates the need to remember button combinations in order to execute a script. You just need to remember one and that is ‘000’, which will initiate Scriptmode. When in Scriptmode, all scripts will be accessible via the Music section and you just go into them and activate them by selecting whichever one you want to execute. All scripts have been pre-added and you’ll find them in the Script section by swiping down from the top. You’ll also find some scripts in the main section, these are scripts marked as favourite.
The developer has managed to get some active watch faces working. These are dynamic watch faces where you can have the weather status and phone battery status available. At the moment, there are three watch faces available - Futura Weather, Modern and YWeather. You will have to use the official Pebble app to load them onto your Pebble. On top of that, the developer has managed to get the Foursquare Pebble app working with Talk2Watch Pro too. So, while you can still make use of the scripts to check-in to Foursquare, you can also use the Pebble watch app too, just like iOS and Android users.
There are some UI changes too, you can remove any notifications from the main section if you don’t use them. You can find this in the Settings, just untick any you don’t use.
Talk2Watch Pro is definitely a jump from the regular version and worth a look. It will cost $3.99. Think of it as a donation to the developer. Apart from being a student, this app is something works on full-time. Both apps will be maintained and remember he is also working on the Talk2Watch API Reference to help other developers connect with Talk2Watch to bring even more great features to BlackBerry 10 Pebble users.
Please note, you do have to have at least Pebble 2.0 beta 4 firmware on your Pebble watch to be able to use Talk2Watch Pro.
