Volvo embraces Google Cardboard to create a virtual test drive

It seems that Volvo is becoming the first major brand to take advantage of Google Cardboard. The car manufacturer released an app called 'Volvo Reality' on Google Play today that drops users into various virtual driving situations with its new XC90 in an effort to promote sales of the SUV.

The app takes users on virtual test drives through different environments at varying times of the day. The experience is divided into multiple episodes that are accompanied by calming music along the way.

It's important to note that the app isn't necessarily compatible with every Android device, as Volvo says that it works best on the Samsung Galaxy S4 & above, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Google Nexus 4 & above, and the Moto X.

If you want to get in on the action and experience what it's like to be in the driver's seat of Volvo's latest, you can head on over to Google Play here to download the app now. If you don't have access to a Google Cardboard unit, you can purchase a kit from Dodocase here. On the other hand, if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, you can follow Google's DIY instructions to build your own set here.
