Fitbit Force sales halted citing skin irritation issues

By Adam Zeis on 21 Feb 2014 02:52 pm

Fitbit today has halted sales of their Force fitness tracker due to skin irritation issues with a good number of users. The units have been causing rashes on users and thus Fitbit is stopping all sales of the units and is issuing a voluntary recall so those affected can get a full refund at retail price. Of course if you're not having issues, then you can continue to use your Force without a hitch.

Recently, some Force users have reported skin irritation. While only 1.7% of Force users have reported any type of skin irritation, we care about every one of our customers. On behalf of the entire Fitbit team, I want to apologize to anyone affected.

If you're one of the rashy bunch and want to return your Fitbit force, you can do so from the dedicated page here.

Are you a Fitbit Force user? How's your wrist looking? Drop a comment and let us know!

As I posted over on iMore:
I have a force, and did have a reaction. The skin under the device became inflamed, and eventually peeled off. Felt like a mild chemical burn. The reaction was in the size/shape of the metal part of the device, although I haven't had reactions to nickel in the past. I hope they come out with a replacement soon, I did enjoy the device for the 2-3 days I wore it before having the reaction.

Haven't sent it back in yet, might just take it back to the store to save time & shipping.

Have had mine for almost a month now. No irritations at all. Love the device.Hope this does not mean they will stop the updates. Was looking forward to the eventual notifications update. One of the reasons that I bought it.

It didn't seem like they stopped production. I saw these at the store. The display sucked but they caught my eye.

Mine has been on my wrist since the 28th of December, minus shower time and charging. Not a red spot nor itch to be had. Love it, but I'm worried about continued support.
