Garmin today has announced the latest addition to their wearables lineup — the Garmin Vivosmart. The Vivosmart is an activity tracker that also features smart notifications. Vibrating alerts are sent to the device for calls, texts, calendar reminders and other alerts from a connected smartphone. The Vivossmart also learns about a user and keeps them moving toward their goals with a more active lifestyle.

Vivosmart features:

  • Smart notifications: Move more and miss less with vívosmart's vibration alerts displaying incoming text, email, call, calendar reminders, and more from your cell phone. Find your cell phone alert: Tap the phone icon in the menu screen and vívosmart will send an alert for your phone to vibrate and ring when you can't find it.
  • Music control: Control your music from your wrist! Play, pause and skip a track with controls on vívosmart for your phone's music player.
  • Heart rate monitor, bike speed sensor and VIRB compatibility: Capture more of your active lifestyle by pairing vívosmart to a heart rate monitor, bike speed sensor to track a workout, or use it as a remote to start/stop recording and take still photos on your Garmin VIRB or VIRB Elite action camera.
  • Gesture control: When your hands are full and you can't double-tap the display, illuminate vívosmart's screen by simply turning your wrist toward yourself to trigger an auto-on display.
  • Additional vibration alerts: Vibration alerts get you up and moving all day. Set the built-in alarm clock to have vívosmart silently alert you when it's time to wake up, and its move bar alert will remind you to stay consistently active all day by vibrating and displaying "move!" after one hour of inactivity (walking around for a few minutes will reset the move bar).

Purple and slate will be available only at http:// It will retail for $169.99 and $199.99 (black or slate heart rate monitor bundle). Additional store availability will follow in November.

The Garmin Vivosmart tracks your activity and gives you smart notifications

This is pretty close to exactly what I've been waiting for. I have a fitbit force currently. It is under recall so I can send back and get my money back at any time. Same functionality as fitbit, add in phone notifications, waterproof, and syncs with a heart rate monitor. Awesome! Just placed my preorder. Hope to see some hands on videos to verify it's as good as it appears.

Any news about availability in Canada?
The vivosmart seems like the best replacement for a Fitbit force.
