Google and LG reportedly teaming up on a smartwatch

By Adam Zeis on 23 Feb 2014 05:48 pm

We've yet to see any offerings from Google or LG when it comes to smartwatches, but if the latest reports are true, we may actually see the two team up on an Android-powered smartwatch. The Wall Street Journal reports that LG will be making Google's first smartwatch and that it could debut as early as June of this year.

Samsung is really the current "big name" in smartwatch land — especially with the announcement of their new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo devices — but that could change when a Google device hits the streets. Not to mention Apple has yet to say anything about their smartwatch offering, but we could also see a device from them later this year as well.

The Google / LG mix has proven to do good things in the past on the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, so we could potentially get another great device in the near future.

Seeing as Google bought out WIMM, this doesn't make sense. Why buy out a smart watch manufacturer just to have it manufactured elsewhere?

Samsung wanted Google out of the hardware business. Now that Samsung has ditched Android from its watch Google really needs to make its own and crush the Gear 2.

Nexus watch ;)

Posted via Magical Leprechaun's who power a Nexus 4. N'oublions jamais l'Australie, Villers-Bretonneux.

If this gets official before my Pebble Steel ships (quite possible scenario) then it's a first day purchase for me.

I love my nexus 4 (and its price ;-))

For that alone I'm excited to see what might be shown in June. I'm waiting on an update on my preorder from kreyos as I may cancel that and see what google come up with. If its not appealing I'll just reorder the kreyos.
