How to control music using your Pebble

One of the cool things about owning a smartwatch is the ability to control music with it. It can come it handy when you want to change tracks or play/pause music. Out of the box the Pebble watch can control music —  you can play, pause, go forward a track, go back a track and rewind using the default music function of the Pebble. You have other app options too and we'll explore those in this post, but we'll go through the basic process first. The process is the same for the original Pebble and the Pebble Steel.

First of all, make sure your Pebble is paired and connected to your device. If you're a new user we have getting started articles for iPhone, Android (and also BlackBerry).

On the iPhone, the Pebble just hooks up to the iOS7 music controls, so all music playing apps can be controlled from the Pebble. With Android, you'll find a Music option in the Pebble app Settings. You can choose which music service/app you want the Pebble to control by default. Just go back and change it up if you want to control a different app.

You'll find this in the Pebble app by going to Settings>Music.

By default, the Pebble can play/pause music, as well as rewind to the start of a track and go to the previous/next track. This is done with the three buttons on the right of the Pebble watch.

The middle button is your Play/Pause button. With the top button you can rewind the track to the beginning with one press. A double press will go back a track. The bottom button will go forward a track with just one press. Double press will just go forward two tracks.

If you're using Talk2Watch for BlackBerry 10 you can control music in the same way too. On all three platforms, music information is also displayed. There isn't a way to control the volume out of the box either. However, if you're on Android, there is an app that comes highly recommended for music lovers. That app is Music Boss. It gives you a little more control and the ability to easily switch control between the different music apps. We'll bring you a full review of the app soon.
