Nest CEO Tony Fadell has proposed a name-change for the smart home industry today. Speaking at the GigaOm Roadmap conference in San Francisco, the CEO stated that he and his company refer to the industry as "conscious home" because of the relationship that the company's products create with users.

Speaking on stage, Fadell had the following to say about the choice in terminology:

We call it the conscious home. Smart is overused. It's not smarter than you. We are only invited into a house, just like a house guest. We have to earn that trust just like any other guest.

It's definitely an interesting take on something that, admittedly, relatively few people probably think about. Would you guys go for an industry name change, or do you think Fadell is just play semantics?
