Nexus Player rolls through the FCC, gets the all-clear

After briefly having its pre-orders stopped due to not being approved by the FCC, the Google-designed Nexus Player has received that coveted approval from the Federal Communications Commission. With that approval we expect to see pre-orders begin again soon on Google Play.

That said, don't expect this to speed up the process of getting the Nexus Player into your hands and hooked up to your TV. Google originally quoted a November 3rd release date for the little media streamer, and we've seen no indication that that's going to change once the device returns to pre-orders. For what it's worth, the announced-at-the-same-time Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are both still up for pre-order and projecting ship dates of "coming soon" and "2-3 weeks", respectively.

Can't find any details about what micro USB is for, whether it supports host mode. Can external hdd be connected (with adapter). What formats does it support. Can XBMC be installed?

I called Google support and they had no idea how to answer any of the questions.
