Securifi has announced new home automation features for both the Almond+ and Almond 2015 touchscreen routers that include a smarthome hub as well. The over-the-air update is now pushing out, and it brings along a new home automation user interface, with several benefits.

In addition to pushing out a huge update, Securifi has knocked $50 off the price of both devices. The Almond+ is $199, while the Almond 2015 is $99, and both will come with a free Peanut smartplug as well.

The key benefits of the new UI include:

  • Lego-like: Building automation rules with Almond+ and Almond 2015 is easy -- similar to building something with Legos.
  • Run locally: Unlike IFTTT, SmartThings, or Wink, the automation rules run locally so everything always works, even without an internet connection.
  • Low latency: Since the automation rules runs locally, the response time is significantly better than cloud-based competitors.
  • Multiple triggers/actions: You can check multiple triggers before any action is executed. You can also add delays between multiple actions.

With this update home automation rules become even easier. For example you can set the lights to come on for two minutes when the closet is opened, or turn all the lights on and sound a siren if the window vibrates. If you have been looking for a new smarthome hub, this may be the deal for you.

Press release:

Almond+ / Almond 2015 new home automation features and special pricing

Almond+ and Almond 2015 -- the world's first touchscreen routers with a built-in smarthome hub -- are gaining an amazing new home automation UI. On Tue Mar 31, 2015 at 10AM PT, Securifi will release an OTA firmware update to existing customers enabling this new functionality. In addition, for a limited time, Almond+ and Almond 2015 (which just launched 2 weeks ago) are available from Amazon with special pricing ($199 and $99, respectively) and a free Peanut smartplug.

Here are the four main talking points for this announcement:

  • The smarthome hub is dead, long live the router: In addition to being phenomenal long-range WiFi routers, Almond+ and Almond 2015 are also smarthome hubs. Almond 2015 supports ZigBee, while Almond+ supports both ZigBee and Z-Wave. This means both routers work with hundreds of devices like thermostats, locks, lights, sensors, etc..., right out of the box!
  • New home automation UI: Use a beautiful visual user interface to create complex home automation rules that do much more than IFTTT and run locally (even without an internet connection).
  • Almond+ is just $199: For a limited time, Almond+ -- which went on sale on Amazon Jan 25 -- only costs $199 (regular price: $249) and comes with a free Peanut smartplug (while supplies last).
  • Almond 2015 is just $99: Almond 2015 -- which launched at CES 2015 and just went on sale on Amazon mid-March -- is an affordable upgrade to the original Almond that adds long-range WiFi and ZigBee support. For a limited time, it costs just $99 (regular price: $149), like the original Almond. It also ships with a free Peanut smartplug (while supplies last).

Here are the key benefits of the new home automation UI:

  • Lego-like: Building automation rules with Almond+ and Almond 2015 is easy -- similar to building something with Legos.
  • Run locally: Unlike IFTTT, SmartThings, or Wink, the automation rules run locally so everything always works, even without an internet connection.
  • Low latency: Since the automation rules runs locally, the response time is significantly better than cloud-based competitors.
  • Multiple triggers/actions: You can check multiple triggers before any action is executed. You can also add delays between multiple actions.

Example automation rules:

  • When the closet is opened, turn the light on for 2 minutes
  • When the mailbox is opened, turn the kitchen light on, set the color to yellow, and ring the door-chime
  • If it's hotter than 100F between 1-5PM, water the lawn for 5 minutes and close the shades
  • Set the bedroom light to 20% at 7AM: after 2 minutes set it to 40%: after another 2 minutes set it to 60%; after another 2 minutes set it to 80%
  • If the window vibrates, turn on all the lights and sound the siren
